A recent email campaign from the "West Valley Neighborhood Alliance" circulated among District 10 residents slammed Senator Gray for her voting record in four major areas and praised Justin Johnson's "plans" for resolving the problems behind them. The newsletter was sent by Facebook friend to Johnson and EAST Valley resident Greg Howard.
The email makes it SOUND like Johnson
ISSUE #1: JOBS & TAXES
Johnson says he "has a plan to create new jobs and make Arizona a more business-friendly state" and that he "supports reducing taxes and regulation for businesses that add new employees." He claims that Senator Gray's plan is "told by her vote to support raising property taxes and sales taxes and by opposing a bill to create new jobs."
Johnson’s campaign propaganda in this area fails to mention that his "plan" to create new jobs and to make Arizona more "business-friendly" is to give incentives (i.e., your tax dollars) to employers (such as his construction company) who hire American workers. Same old liberal logic: We have to spend more to get the desired result - and Johnson wants to position himself to be a major benefactor of such legislation.
Gray never had a chance to vote on the Jobs bill since it never made it to the Senate floor. Greater Phoenix Chamber and National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) endorsed Senator Gray for her stellar record of supporting business and the creation of jobs. Johnson is not endorsed by ANY pro-business group that advocates for those employers and businesses that will be creating jobs during an economic recovery.
With regard to taxes, Gray did support the Proposition 100 temporary sales increase to support education funding and she has supported school override elections in the past. Johnson's position on these issues is unclear since he has never voted in an Arizona election until he decided to run for Senate!
ISSUE #2: ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
Johnson says he "has a plan that supports free market principles, incentivizing employers to hire American workers and securing our border: and that "our district has been hit hard by illegal immigration." He claims that Senator Gray "voted against the law to make it illegal for employers to hire illegals", that she "voted to give in-state tuition to illegal immigrants" and that she "is supportive of putting guns in the hands of illegals by voting against making it a requirement to be an American citizen to buy a handgun in Arizona."
Johnson's campaign propaganda in this area fails to mention that he is NOT in support of SB 1070. With regard to Gray's stand on illegal immigration, her voting record speaks for itself:
ISSUE #3: BUDGET CRISIS & EDUCATION
Johnson says he "has a plan to consolidate school districts that experts say will reduce $500 million each year in administrative costs, which are draining our education system. He claims that Senator Gray voted for six of eight Napolitano budgets and even voted to sell the state capitol, which provided only enough funds for a one-year "fix" to our annual budget shortfall.
Johnson's campaign propaganda in this area fails to mention that the candidates are actually in agreement on the school district consolidation issue. Gray sponsored the bill that placed on the ballot the unification of school districts to help cut administrative costs on the ballot - something no other legislator has been able to accomplish.
Former Governor Napolitano was not in office long enough to have eight budgets. In fact, when Napolitano said one of her budget plans included five Chapters, Gray’s comment at the time that she "forgot to mention Chapter 11." Gray did vote yes on the increased education funding in that budget.
ISSUE #4: SYSTEM REFORM
Johnson says he "supports the constitution, in particular the second amendment", that he "supports changing the state to a non-partisan form of government, which is how our cities function" and that he "opposes the use of taxpayer money for political campaigns." He claims that Senator Gray has received over $180,000 (for 5 different elections) in taxpayer money to run her campaigns in five different elections and that she is now being implicated in a criminal investigation to run fake candidates and cheat taxpayers out of their money as reported by
Johnson's campaign propaganda in this area fails to mention that Gray is endorsed by national Second Amendment advocacy organizations such as the National Rifle Association (NRA), while he is NOT.
With regard to campaign finance reform, Johnson could have put HIS money where is mouth is on this issue and ran as an independent candidate to prove his point. Instead, he chose to run as a democrat so he would be able to raise a more money (about $107,000 to date for this election only) for his race.
Finally, with regard to Johnson's allegations of voter fraud, it should be noted that the Gray has never been found guilty of ANY crimes. The only “implication” in this area is being made by democrats and other leftist radicals who are trying to discredit her.
has the interests of District 10 in mind. A review of his stand on the issues important to our community, however, reveals otherwise:
The "West Valley Neighborhood Alliance" is neither in the West Valley nor is it an alliance
